Three things to know about teaching yoga

by Viki Distin

If you're thinking about enrolling in the Prairie Yoga Teacher Training Program at Cascade Yoga, here are some things to consider:

1. You won’t get rich teaching yoga.

The majority of people teaching yoga do so because they love the practice, not to make a lot of money. While it’s possible to live off of your salary, most yoga teachers live a simple life. But, Prairie Yoga will include in the training how to market yourself as a teacher and offer support of finding yoga opportunities within your community.

2. Everyone has a different motivation for registering for teacher training.

Your motivation for enrolling in the teacher training program at CYS is just as valid as the next yogi’s. In fact, you may not have even thought of all the ways the teacher training program can serve you and those you teach. At CYS, we’ve heard a number of reasons why students are registering for the program, including: to offer yoga to special needs students in the school system; to teach yoga to seniors in nursing homes; to “enlighten” the corporate world; to enhance a home practice; and to teach anywhere students can be found (church basements, health clubs, or school gyms). One male student plans to teach yoga specifically for men. Whatever your reason for wanting to become a registered yoga teacher is a good reason!

3. Don’t let doubt hold you back from participating in the teacher training program.

Yoga practice enables you to do things that you thought weren’t even possible. Many teachers begin their careers with gripping self doubt. In the beginning, teachers report that before a class, they would become physically ill, have panic attacks, or not sleep the night before they taught. The training program has the potential to empower yoga students to find their teacher voice and help to empower others. Please read other students comments from the website www.PrairieYogaTT.com to find out how the training has improved their teaching and their lives.
