Yoga therapy empowers you to progress toward improved health and well-being by applying the philosophy and practice of yoga. Yoga therapy may not seem that different from yoga, but with a knowledgeable teacher’s compassionate presence and experience, your session becomes therapeutic.

Yoga therapy benefits those with biomechanical (structural) imbalances, whether they’re congenital or a result of trauma or injury. If you’re suffering from a stress injury, a sports injury, or a chronic or long-term illness, the Friday morning yoga therapeutics class may be just the place for you.

If you have an injury, yoga therapy isn’t a replacement for physical therapy or traditional Western medicine; it’s practiced in cooperation with your health care providers.

Yoga therapy can also help you heal emotional wounds. The practice provides insight and direction into aligning energetic imbalances (stress, burnout, adrenal fatigue) as awareness is enhanced through the teachings of yoga philosophy and Ayurvedic practices.

Self awareness and your full participation are needed for yoga therapy. Several practices are used to help you better understand yourself and your habits. Practices include: guided Pranayama (breath work), meditation, yoga nidra (relaxtion exercise), and Ayurvedic practices (yoga’s sister science).

Self awareness is necessary to heal effectively and to also prevent re-injury. By quieting your mind, you can use stillness to access insight into your living habits that cause suffering.

On Friday mornings at Cascade Yoga Studio, I teach a group yoga therapeutics class. The progression of postures taught in this class is designed to enhance awareness and to learn alignment principles that bring the body into balance. In these classes, you’ll learn through demonstrations, partner work, and supported postures.

Classes are appropriate for most students with prior yoga experience. You’ll be empowered to move beyond your limiting beliefs and habitual imbalances so you can begin to heal and prevent repetitive injuries. If you’re new to yoga and you have an illness or injury, consider a private session before getting started with class.
