Instructor Bios
Beth
Beth graduated from Baker College and is a Physical Therapy Assistant. She has experience teaching Yoga and Pilates at the TriCity YMCA in Grand Haven where she also taught Youth Fitness Programs to teens and pre-teens. Beth is working towards her Yoga Alliance Certification and is currently enrolled in Jonny Kest teaching training program.
Claire
Claire has completed her yoga teacher training from Namaste Yoga Studio in Detroit, MI. She is recognized by The Yoga Alliance. Claire is teaching yoga programs for Aquinas College and Grand Valley State University.
Jen
Jen completed her yoga teacher training through Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Lenox, MA. Her degree in exercise physiology and her experience as a personal trainer naturally led Jen to the path of yoga.
JessicaJessica has practiced a variety of yoga styles over the past 10 years. She completed her Ashtanga yoga teacher training in Brazil and went on to open an Ashtanga Yoga studio in Rio de Janeiro. She taught yoga, music, and English around the globe before returning to her home in Grand Rapids last year. She now teaches yoga at Cascade Yoga Studio and is working on a book about the impact of diet on the environment.
Kat
Kat has taught movement to children since 2002.
She is currently enrolled in a teacher training program with
Sangha Yoga in Kalamazoo.
Kat has studied sports science and personal training at Blue Heron Academy where she earned her Sports Science Trainer certification.
Katherine
Katherine, BS, RYT500, is an affiliated Anusara teacher and has practiced yoga since the early 1990s; she completed her initial Anusara teacher training with Todd Norian in 2002. Since then she completed Level 1 and 2 teacher training with John Friend, founder of Anusara. Her growing and keen interest in yoga for chronic disease management is based on Anusara principles and inspired by yoga therapy training with John. Ultimately, Katherine believes the practice of yoga is beneficial for whatever stage of the wellness continuum a student may be on. Yoga guides and inspires one to live fully in body, mind, and heart.
Laura
Laura graduated from Hope College with a degree in kinesiology, the study of body movement. Over the past 6 years she has continued studying mindfull movement as well as how the mental/ cognitive thoughts and energy systems effect the physical body. Sarah Powers, Anna Forest, and Linda Kay have been a few of her most influencial teachers.
Melissa
Melissa comes from a dance and fitness background and has taught a variety of classes over the last 25 years. She began her yoga practice in 2000 and is currently studying Anusara yoga with Todd Norian. Her degree as a recreation therapist led her to work with people with special needs. Melissa believes yoga is a valuable therapeutic practice.
Raechel
Raechel became a certified yoga teacher through Rising Sun Yoga Studio in Detroit this past year. Raechel holds a degree in psychology and is currently working as a personal trainer and nutritionist. She studied holistic nutrition at the Blue Heron Academy where she received her certification as a clinical nutritionist.
Sarah
Sarah strongly believes in the power of "connection" and the ability of body and spirit to heal. She considers yoga an excellent avenue for opening one's heart to healing and spiritual growth, as well as a wonderful discipline for bringing balance into one's life. In addition to practicing and teaching yoga, she has her masters degree and is a licensed physical therapist.
Shawn
Shawn completed her kids' yoga certification through Next Generation Yoga in Manhattan and her Level 1 teacher training with Tias Little. She has degrees in chemistry and occupational therapy and is a registered occupational therapist. Shawn discovered yoga during college and has continued to practice and learn about yoga ever since.
Stephanie
Stephanie began the discipline of meditation in 1997, discovering in practice that Hatha yoga served as an essential tool for creating stability and integrity in the spine to enhance the practice of meditation. She then became certified as a Hatha yoga teacher with the Temple of Kriya yoga in Chicago in 2003. Through dedication to this practice, Stephanie continues to move in the direction of optimum health and conscious living, ultimately overwhelmed with gratitude for the opportunity to enjoy this journey of awakening with exceptional teachers and students.
Theresa
Theresa has a long history of teaching land and water aerobics. Currently, Theresa is in a teacher training program learning the alignment principles of Anusara yoga. If you take a class with Theresa you might enjoy her gentle and attentive manner.
Viki
Viki began her yoga practice in 1997 as the answer to a long-time illness. She holds a degree in psychology and has her RYT (certification for teaching yoga). Her primary teacher is Tias Little and therefore she teaches with the structure of alignment and the flow of breath and movement. Forever a student of this practice, she is grateful for all of her teachers, students, and ancient yogis who inspire her every day on this path of wholeness.
