Cascade Yoga Studio welcomes guest teacher from Chicago
Guest Teacher Brenna GeehanBrenna Geehan began her yogic journey in 1998 and continues to teach all around the Midwest and to assist her teacher, Yogarupa Rod Stryker. She is working toward Rod Stryker's Master Certification of Parayoga. Her classes are based on the Principles of Tantric Hatha Yoga. Brenna believes that we all have the right and capacity to realize a life brimming with joy, meaning, and purpose. In her classes, she offers an asana practice that honors a number of styles including vinyasa flow, tantra, and a soft and fluid approach that encourages an "inner listening." She helps transform students' bodies to be stronger and more flexible, and also helps students with removing mental and emotional obstructions so they may have a more balanced and healthy energy flow. She includes meditation practices that encourage students to find clarity of mind and peaceful dispositions.

Yogi spotlight
When Jennie Browne first began her yoga practice in 2006, she practiced once a week. After noticing the benefits, she quickly increased her practice to three times a week.

Yogi Spotlight - Jennie Browne

As the associate pastor of First United Methodist Church and mother of two daughters, Katie, 19, and Lexie, 13, Jennie keeps busy. Jennie's husband, Guy Martin, is also a Methodist minister. Being a mother, wife, and pastor means Jennie is constantly caring for others, and yoga is her emotional injection of self care. She claims yoga is the best investment in her physical health and in the health of her family life.

When Jennie is asked how she can be a Christian and practice yoga, Jennie  responds: "In my best yoga sessions I find myself closer to God than in any other spiritual practice. Just because yoga isn't couched in Christian language doesn't mean I don't experience it as a Christian."

Yoga gives Jennie the strength and energy to do mission work, to take international trips, and to care for others - all the things her profession calls her to do. Now those are reasons to practice yoga!

Pilates a great supplement to yoga practice
Consider adding a Pilates or Pilates-Yoga Fusion class to your practice. Pilates is a wonderful supplement to your yoga practice that will help you practice yoga with more ease. Tim Miller, a California Ashtanga yoga teacher, tells new yoga students with weak core strength to take Pilates for two years and then begin practicing yoga. Cascade Yoga Studio currently offers the following Pilates and Pilates-Yoga Fusion classes at noon on the following days:

Monday - Pilates
Thursday - Pilates-Yoga Fusion
Friday - Pilates-Yoga Fusion

Beach read
Looking for something to read on the beach? Try The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Anthony Robbins, author of Awaken the Giant Within, says about the book: "A remarkable tale about the most magical of all journeys: the quest to fulfill one's destiny. I recommend The Alchemist to anyone who is passionately committed to claiming the life of their dreams today."

Parting thoughts
"When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds; your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be." - Patanjali, ancient yogi

Yoga is an extraordinary project - the project of finding ourselves. Namaste.
